Romeo and Juliet is a 1968 British-Italian romance film based on the tragic play with the same name written by William Shakespeare early in his career and directed by Franco Zeffirelli. The action takes place in Verona, Italy where the Montague and the Capulet families are having a longstanding feud. At a party organized by the Capulets, the Montangues also go uninvited. There, the two teenagers, Romeo (Leonard Whiting) from the Montague and Juliet (Olivia Hussey) from the Capulet fall in love.
However, a Capulet, Tybalt, recognizes Romeo, but doesn't say anything.
After a few days, Romeo and Juliet marry secretly even though Juliet was to marry Count Paris. In order to escape the marriage with Paris, she takes a potion that makes her appear temporarily dead for 42 h. Romeo, thinking that she has really died, goes to her tomb and kills himself by drinking poison. When Juliet awakes, she sees Romeo dead and she kills herself by drinking the same poison.
Only after all this happens, the Montangues and the Capulets stop fighting.
The movie presents a dramatic plot of two teenagers. It is worth to watch it for the plot itself, acting and the way of life that was at the time.
Also, if you ever go to Verona, don't forget to visit Juliet's House, Balcony and Statue as well as Romeo's house. It will be a great experience!
